2012 25/366: Mat 6

Day 25

05 FEB 2012

On Day 25, we attended our first -- and only -- wrestling tournament. It was quite an experience for all of us. Since I don't really understand how wrestling is scored, I stayed pretty lost the entire time I was there.

2012 019/366: Teenager

Day 19

30 JAN 2012

Boring photo. Because the only time I can photograph her is when she's not looking at me. Or when she's unaware.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

2012 016/366: Knowledge is Power

Day 016

27 JAN 2012

Day 16 brought a conference with my son's teachers that, although I heard nothing surprising, still left me in tears. My son has Nonverbal Learning Disorder. Because it's not well known, most people have no clue how to deal kids like my son. And despite the warnings and information I give his teachers at the beginning of every school year, I always get called in and asked for suggestions of how to deal with him.

It's beyond frustrating.

This is one of the books I've had since we first got his diagnosis. I haven't read it in a while. After that conference, I decided to pull it out and read it again. When I'm not studying, of course. Maybe I'll find something that will ease his struggle.

Summer Day

Day 197

16 JULY 09

We had just finished sodding our backyard -- did it ourselves! -- and the husband put out the sprinklers to water it in. After what seemed like a billion years in a severe drought, my son took advantage of the water flying through the air. He put his swimming trunks on, ran outside, and played in the water to his heart's content.

After the Rain

Day 189

08 JULY 09

My son and I were heading out after the day's rain stopped. I buckled my seat belt, started my truck, and checked my mirrors -- just like I always do. What you see here is the sight I was greeted with when I checked my sideview mirror. I couldn't resist capturing the view. I am his mom, after all.

I Think I Can, I Think I Can...

Day 162

11 JUNE 09

This was a spur-of-the-moment shot taken with my cell phone, and the only one I managed to grab on Day 162. At least I remembered to get one!

We were at my son's Tae Kwon Do class, and students were jumping over each other. I had to get a photo of this incident because it was just so darned cute. The purple blur is a little girl who can't be more than 4-5 years old, and she was partnered with a 14-year-old higher ranking girl. When the little blur went to jump over her partner, she just barely made it over, much to the delight of the watching parents (including her mother). But that little girl didn't give up. Whenever she was told to run and jump, she gave it her all. I loved that.

Paw-to-Paw

Day 161

10 JUNE 09

I often refer to my children's hands and feet as their paws, so when I saw the opportunity to compare a real paw to one of my children's paws, I was all over it.

This is our older dog's paw next to my daughter's. We adopted this dog from Animal Control when was was just 8 weeks old. At the time, my daughter was a month away from turning 2. In other words, these two grew up together. In fact, they grew up as siblings, complete with the sibling rivalry and arguments.

They're both 14 now (well, technically, he'll be 14 in 2 months), and still the best of friends.

Rapt Attention

Day 157

06 JUNE 09

It was another Saturday night at the dirt track. During the "packing the track" portion of the evening, I spotted these two who almost had their noses pressed against the fence. I'm pretty sure they had a friend or relative participating in the races, although I don't know who.

Since they were just so durned cute, I couldn't help but grab a photo of them.

Post-processing: Not much on this one. Noise reduction, slight curves adjustment, sharpening, and border addition.

Here, Buggie Buggie Buggie

DAY 77

18 MAR 09

We were back at the high school for another soccer game, and my son was off doing things more interesting to little boys. I'm not sure what he was doing, but when I took this photo, it just felt to me like he was searching for bugs. Of course, my son often really is searching for bugs, so it really wasn't a stretch.

Either way, the scene was a little boy keeping busy in a little boy manner, and it made a great shot.

Puzzled

DAY 6

06 JAN 09

Day 6 of Project 365 was a Tuesday. Tuesday is my very busy with the kids day. From the time they get home from school, I'm off and running -- Mom's Shuttle Service. They both have activities, and they overlap. So when I say I'm running, I mean that almost literally (except for the fact I have a vehicle).

This shot is from the final activity of the night (for them, anyway; I still had to get dinner together and finish laundry and sweep the kitchen...). I'd just picked my daughter up from her Tae Kwon Do lesson, and walked in to see my son's Cub Scout Bear Den making puzzles out of magazine pictures.

Obviously, my son was a little ambitious. Cutting those pieces out was interesting.

Home From School

DAY 5

05 JAN 09

Coming home after the first day back to school following Christmas vacation is something most kids look forward to, isn't it?
