I Think I Can, I Think I Can...

Day 162

11 JUNE 09

This was a spur-of-the-moment shot taken with my cell phone, and the only one I managed to grab on Day 162. At least I remembered to get one!

We were at my son's Tae Kwon Do class, and students were jumping over each other. I had to get a photo of this incident because it was just so darned cute. The purple blur is a little girl who can't be more than 4-5 years old, and she was partnered with a 14-year-old higher ranking girl. When the little blur went to jump over her partner, she just barely made it over, much to the delight of the watching parents (including her mother). But that little girl didn't give up. Whenever she was told to run and jump, she gave it her all. I loved that.

What Big Feet You Have!

DAY 29

29 JAN 09

Nearly a month in to Project 365, or should I say only a month in, and I already catch myself thinking What the heck can I possibly shoot today? On Day 29, as I watched my son watch my daughter's Tae Kwon Do class (did you get all that? :P), I wondered what it would look like if I shot him from behind at a low angle. And when he decided to lay down on his stomach, it became perfect. Almost fisheye-ish without the fisheye -- his feet became HUGE and out of proportion.

Oooh! What fun!

His feet really aren't that big, by the way. Although... they are almost as big as mine and he's still in elementary school...

Post-processing was the norm: noise reduction, sharpening, curves adjustments and border addition.

At Rest

DAY 20

20 JAN 09

I've been a bit under the weather lately, and doing what I could to get extra rest. Unfortunately, that meant cutting back my internet time. But it didn't mean neglecting my Project 365 shots.

Of course, what that means is I've got a backlog of shots to process and upload.

Here's the first of that backlog. A shot of my daughter during her Tae Kwon Do class during one of the rare times she's not required to do anything.

I did minimal processing on this shot -- just a little sharpening and noise reduction.

Hi-YA!

DAY 7

07 JAN 09

While watching my children practice "fall downs" in their Hap Ki Do class, I discovered my first real opportunity so far to try something new. Showing movement with blur. Of course I've had blurry pictures in the past, but never on purpose.

I put my DSLR aside, pulled out my Canon PowerShot SX110 IS, and set it on "auto". When composing the shots, I ignored the camera's demand to put the flash up (yes, it does tell me that in bright red capital letters). The result was a lot of shots with great motion blur.

My daughter, the black belt in the foreground, thought this picture looked like a major "butt shot" and is not pleased.
