2011: 3/365 How Creative!

03 FEB 2011

One of my favorite ways to pass time (besides photography, of course) is crochet. A few weeks back, I came across an interesting pattern on the internet, so of course, I had to try it out. It's a grocery bag crocheted entirely from grocery bags!

You cut grocery bags into strips, tie them together, then crochet. And on Day 3, I finished my first bag. Yes, I said first, because I'm definitely making more. It turned out so much better than I expected. It doesn't look like it's made of grocery bags. It doesn't feel like it's made of grocery bags. And it gives me something more to do with my grocery bags than taking them for recycling.

This picture is a closeup of the bag I made. Cool, right? I thought so.

If you're crafty and interested in the free pattern, you can find it here: The Ultimate Grocery Bag pattern.

  1. It is a great repurpose . We made these about 30 years ago. Bags rugs, picnic place mats , all sorts of things. Then there were the hats with crocheted bags and cut aluminum cans- beer, soda, great memories. Thanks.

  2. I remember the hats, and I have friends who carry bags made of Capri Sun packets. I can now say I've done it, too. :-)
