2011: 3/365 How Creative!

03 FEB 2011

One of my favorite ways to pass time (besides photography, of course) is crochet. A few weeks back, I came across an interesting pattern on the internet, so of course, I had to try it out. It's a grocery bag crocheted entirely from grocery bags!

You cut grocery bags into strips, tie them together, then crochet. And on Day 3, I finished my first bag. Yes, I said first, because I'm definitely making more. It turned out so much better than I expected. It doesn't look like it's made of grocery bags. It doesn't feel like it's made of grocery bags. And it gives me something more to do with my grocery bags than taking them for recycling.

This picture is a closeup of the bag I made. Cool, right? I thought so.

If you're crafty and interested in the free pattern, you can find it here: The Ultimate Grocery Bag pattern.

Stitch Me Up

DAY 134

14 MAY 09

When my daughter was an infant, I taught myself to crochet. A couple of the women I knew were doing it, and I thought if they could do it, I could, too. So I bought myself a book and got to work.

It had to be a special book; one that included instructions for leftys. I spent a lot of time with that book and a crochet hook and a skein of yarn, but I eventually got it figured out. Since then, I've run hot and cold with it; sometimes I'm constantly crocheting while other times it's completely put away, but I always know it's there. Waiting for me.

Pictured here is part of my current project. Right now, it's a bunch of granny squares, but when I have enough, I'll sew them together to make an afghan for my bed.

Post-processing: noise reduction, sharpening, curves adjustment, border addition.
