2011: 47/365 Doodie Duty

19 MAR 2011

My son's Webelos den went fishing at a nearby state park. As I pulled in, I saw this sign at the edge of the parking lot. It made me giggle, and I knew it would have to be my Project 365 photo for the day.

It still makes me laugh. It's your doodie. :-D

2011: 18/365 Turn Left

18 FEB 2011

I don't know why I like to whip my camera out and take photos when I'm stopped at traffic lights. Maybe it's because the scenery is different from that at my home or my kids' Tae Kwon Do class. Maybe it's because the potential subjects are ever-changing. Or maybe it's just the challenge and thrill of getting the shot before the light changes.

Regardless of why I pull my camera out at intersections, this is a photo of exactly that. Traffic signs against the sky. Simple.

Coffee Time!

Day 198

17 JULY 09

In preparation for my daughter's marching band camp, my kids and I took a ride to the music store in the next county for supplies. Next door to the music store was a McDonald's. And on that McDonald's sign was this corny saying.

Corny, corny, corny, but it still makes me giggle every time I read it. Guess that makes me corny, too.

Today's Special

Day 181

30 JUNE 09

There's a new restaurant serving Cajun-style and Southern food in the downtown district of my little town. You always know what their special of the day is; it's on a chalkboard next to the street. Right in front of the two cafe-style tables covered in white tablecloths that are also next to the street.

We haven't stopped in yet -- gotta watch that budget! -- but it's on our list.

Want Fries With That?

Day 179

28 JUNE 09

On yet another uninspired photo day, I grabbed a shot out the window as we waited for our food at the local Sonic Drive-in. There's nothing particularly interesting about it, although I did kind of like the angle.

Post-processing: noise reduction, sharpening, curves adjustment, color boost, cloned out power lines (just because), border addition.

Cheesy, But Fun

DAY 138

18 MAY 09

Everybody needs a bit of cheese in their life, right? Lately, the McDonald's signs have been cracking me up. And it all started with a misread sign.

We were driving past our local Mickey Dees one day, when I couldn't help laugh out loud. The sign out in front of the restaurant read Have a hot chocolate. Nothing funny about that, right? Right. But what I saw was entirely different. For some reason, my first glance saw a sign that read Have a NOT chocolate (emphasis my own). How could I not laugh?

The sign in this picture is the one that replaced my NOT chocolate sign. And it's just cheesy enough to make me smile every time I drive past.

Contradiction

DAY 24

24 JAN 09

On Day 24 -- actually, Night 24 -- I was out and about with my family, taking pictures of everything even remotely interesting. I got some cool shots playing with color and angles in a home improvement store, and some interesting groups of things that came out nicely in photos. But the picture that said the most to me was one that made me laugh.

Why put out a bench if you have a police-enforced No Loitering rule? It just boggles the mind.

Post-processing includes noise reduction and sharpening, a major contrast boost, and conversion to black & white using the Virtual Photographer plugin and the Hollywood filter.
