We've had a lot of foggy days around here lately. It's been warm, particularly for January, but foggy. Usually the fog burns off by mid-morning. Not on Day 11. On Day 11 it was still foggy at one o'clock in the afternoon.

Motion Blur
DAY 145
What is Project 365 if not an open invitation to experiment?
On a rainy trip home from the mountains, I decided to see what I could do with longer exposures. In a moving vehicle. At night. Great fun had by all!
Okay...maybe not all. But I sure had a bang-up time. After setting the shutter priority at one second, I braced my arms on my knees and held as still as I possibly could. Then I prayed for as few bumps and bounces as possible and hit the shutter release.
I ended up with a lot of missteps, but I thought this shot was a pretty interesting one. Not for nothing, but I think I'll call this experiment a success. :)
Post-processing: ACR tweaks, noise reduction, sharpening, curves adjustments, border addition.

See Rock City
Day 122
SEE ROCK CITY
I've seen that phrase everywhere, and it always reminds me of yesteryear and makes me smile. I know birdhouses like this are sold at Lookout Mountain, GA, and I keep thinking I'll pick one up next time I'm there. I haven't managed to get around to it yet.
My husband was buying yet more supplies for his garage, and the person we were purchasing from on this day had this in birdhouse in his yard. While I wasn't as excited to see this one as I was when I saw an identical one in Cooke City, Montana, I still thought it was cool. It still reminded me I need to pick one up for myself.
It's just on this side of kitschy, and I love a little kitsch.
Put it against a background of beautiful new green leaves, and it becomes a great photo.
Post-processing: noise reduction, sharpening, border addition.

Dreaming of a...Parking Lot?
DAY 112
This was the day of The Great Shoe Search. My son absolutely had to have a new pair of Converse Chuck Taylors, and my mother, who is in from out of town, promised him a pair. So on Day 112, we drove all over looking for a pair of sneakers.
I ended up ordering them off the internet.
I took this photo in the parking lot of a Kohl's. I had taken the picture because I liked the symmetry of the trees on the islands, but that didn't show up the way I'd hoped in the photo. Unfortunately, none of the other pictures came out the way I'd hoped either. Since this was the best of the bunch, I had to do what I could with what I had.
Post-processing: I played around quite a bit with this photo. After the regular noise reduction and sharpening, I cropped the photo and ran a Velvia action. Then I ran it through Virtual Photographer, applying the Ambiance filter.

It's Snowing!
DAY 60
Big news day in metropolitan Atlanta. Big BIG news day. Because on this day, we were hit with a snowstorm that officially dropped four inches of snow in my neck of the woods. I say officially, because we measured six inches at my house about three hours before the snowstorm ended. Either way, it was a lot of snow for us southerners.
The photo is my backyard at 3:50pm. Before the storm was over, that bottom stair in the middle of the photo would be completely covered. Like I said, considering it was the only snow for us this season, it was a big, big deal.
Post-processing included cropping, noise reduction, sharpening, curves adjustment, black and white conversion, and border addition.

Foggy Morning
DAY 27
After the rains came and went, we had a few mornings of dense fog around here. Since I didn't have to be out trying to drive in it, I thought it was tres cool. When it's like that outdoors, I like to tell my children we're in the clouds. That almost makes a foggy day mystical. At the very least, a dense fog lends an air of mystery to the day.
There is some extra post-processing on this one. After my usual noise reduction, sharpening, and curves adjustments, I converted this one to black and white then cloned out a chain-link fence. Not the greatest clone job, but for a quick disappearing act, I'm pretty happy with it.
