On the Green

Day 190

09 JULY 09

I thought this post title was better than my original choice: A Couple of Balls. Not much I can say about this photo -- it's another shot I took during British soccer camp, and another one minus human beings. The balls are white and the grass is green. I liked the contrast.

Post-processing: noise reduction, sharpening, border addition.

Fuzzy Wuzzy

DAY 125

05 MAY 09

Odd, how things change when you view them close-up. From my normal perspective -- standing up and walking through the yard -- this moss near our go-kart track isn't particularly interesting. Granted, it's really green, but that's about it. But when you get down next to it, look at it from its level, that's when the coolness factor kicks in.

It's very VERY green. It's grass without being grassy. It's fuzzy. And soft. And lots of fun. How could I not take a picture?

Make Like a Tree

DAY 107

17 APR 09

My husband was purchasing car parts. I didn't find the idea of standing around in a stranger's garage appealing, so I opted to stay in the truck. It was a partly cloudy day, and my husband parked beneath some very old, very large trees. Spring had sprung(gotta love those cliches!), and the branches directly above me had gorgeous bright green leaves all over it.

Suddenly, the sun peeked out from behind the clouds, brightening the leaves above me with amazing backlight. Of course, I had to take out the camera and get shots.

Post-production: noise reduction, sharpening, curves adjustment to ease up the green, a little bit of dodging, and a border addition.

Deflated

DAY 70

11 MAR 09

Sometime over the past week, there had been some sort of celebration or event at the strip mall that houses my children's martial arts school. These balloons, now nearly airless and flat, were still tied to the pole right outside the door. I'm sure when they were first tied up, they were cheerful and welcoming, but by the time I saw them, they were just plain sad.

I got a few odd looks when I was taking this picture. Since the balloons were on the ground, I wanted to be, too. I seem to be very into low angles lately, and I thought that was exactly what this capture needed.

Post-processing: noise reduction, sharpening, cropping, slight shadow/highlights bump to lift the shadows on the balloons, border addition.
